Shipping and Return Policy

Shipping Charges

Domestic Shipping: The vast majority of our orders are shipped through the US Postal Service.

  • Please note that if the order goes over $200 or over 2 pounds we will prefer to ship by FedEx Ground. The postal system offers insurance but it only covers loss of the package, not damage. So for expensive orders it is far better to ship by FedEx Ground. See additional charges below.
  • Additional charges:
    • Orders including flex track will be charged actual shipping cost. Please note: if necessary, items will be shipped in separate boxes and actual shipping charges will be billed.
    • Orders over 2 pounds or $200 in value may be charged actual shipping costs.
    • Orders shipped in multiple boxes will be charged actual shipping costs.
    • Our shipping and handling policy can be revised at any time.

International Shipping: International orders will be charged the actual US Postal Service Air Parcel charge plus a $3.00 handling/packing fee.

Global Priority Mail 6-14 days. Partial tracking.
First-Class Mail International 10-14 days. NO tracking, NO insurance.
  • We URGE you to choose Global Express for its faster service and detailed tracking information. **First Class International DOES NOT OFFER TRACKING**
  • Our customs declaration documents indicate our shipments as "Toy Train", and match the invoiced dollar total. We will not falsify customs forms or invoices, please do not ask.

If you do not insure your items we are not responsible for loss or damage.

Returns & Exchanges

  • If you need to return an item, please contact us via e-mail or phone. We will then send you an RMA number. Contact information is located on our Contact Us page.
  • Exchanges and Returns can be made within 14 days of receipt.
  • There will be a 15% restocking fee for non-defective returns.
  • Refunds will be charged back to Amazon, PayPal or the credit/debit card used in the original transaction. (subject to a 3% chargeback fee where applicable)
  • Customers can choose a store credit in which case no chargeback fee will be necessary.
  • All shipping costs will be borne by the buyer.
  • Non-defective returns and exchanges must always be returned in their original condition and packaging.
  • You MUST have a valid RMA number to have your return accepted. Items returned without a valid RMA number will be refused and returned.

Damaged/Defective Returns & Exchanges

  • If you have received an item that is damaged, defective, or not as described please contact us within 30 days of receipt via e-mail or phone. We will then send you an RMA number to return the item. Contact information is located on our Contact Us page.
  • You MUST have a valid RMA number to have your return accepted. Items returned without a valid RMA number will be refused and returned.
  • The damaged or defective item must include an explanation describing the damage or defect.
  • The item must include the original packaging.
  • Items that are damaged or defective must be received and verified by The Short Line Model Railroad Supply before a refund or store credit is issued.
  • For items that become defective more than 30 days after shipment and are under warranty, please contact the manufacturer.
  • For items that were damaged during shipment please retain the shipping container and packing material for the claim with the shipping provider.

Shipping Items to us

  • If you are shipping back an item to us for any reason, you must contact us via e-mail or phone before shipment. Failure to do so may result in the shipper being responsible for all shipping costs. Contact information is located on our Contact Us page.
  • Always include a copy of your original packing slip when shipping items to us.

Canceled Orders

  • If we have not shipped the item, we will simply initiate a refund for the order.
  • If we have already shipped the item, we request that the buyer please contact us via e-mail or phone. We will then send you an RMA number to return the item.
  • You MUST have a valid RMA number to have your return accepted. Items returned without a valid RMA number will be refused and returned.
  • Returned items must be received and verified by The Short Line Model Railroad Supply before a refund is issued.
  • Return shipping costs will be borne by the buyer.
