    Railfanning Tehachapi & Beyond 1987 & 1989 - 3 DVD Set

The wonder of Tehachapi Loop, one of the greatest engineering feats in railroading history.

Throughout railroad history, the look of the trains on the loop has changed many times, and this program capture one of those moments. Cabooses were making their final appearances. The Santa Fe & The Southern Pacific were getting ready for their merger with the short-lived "Kodachrome" paint scheme. Of course the merge never happened, but the railroads continued on for several more years before merging with other lines.

This program features huge intermodals on the Santa Fe, the tank trains ("oil cans") on the Southern Pacific, end even a loaded coal train with 2 sets of helpers climbing the loop! You'll also see the usual variety of mixed freights, including the SP lumber trains.

The loop itself is covered from a variety of locations.  You'll also see action from Caliente to Mojave.  Also included are brief visits to the Barstow, California classification yard, and Cajon Pass (unfortunately the wind quickly drove us away).

This is amateur footage digitally edited and re-mastered into an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable program!
