The Southern Tier - Conrail on the Erie DVD

The Erie Railroad's main line crossed eastern Pennsylvania and southern New York to Binghamton on its way west to Chicago. In the early 1960s, the Erie merged with competitor, Delaware, Lackawanna and Western to form the Erie-Lackawanna. When Conrail took over most of the railroad lines in the northeast, the Erie Lackawanna was induded. This former EL route was downgraded as Conrail's main route west was the more northerly "Water Level Route" of the former New York Central. This former EL line became known as "The Southern Tier". This program covers the line from Port Jervis, NY, to Johnson City, NY, including Callicoon, Cohecton, Hancock, Gulf Summit, Deposit and famous Starruca Viaduct.
